Royal Air Force Typhoon fighter aircraft have conducted a mission with France's air force in a coordinated attack against an hidden munitions depot in Syria employed by the IS group, according to the British defence ministry.
The facility, located using reconnaissance, was assessed as storing arms and explosives, the release indicated, and was positioned in mountainous terrain just above Palmyra in the heart of Syria.
"Our aircraft employed precision-guided Paveway IV munitions to strike a series of entry passages leading to the facility... initial indications are that the strike was effective," the MoD said.
There was no indication of any civilian impact in the attack late on Saturday and all the aircraft returned to base without incident, the ministry further stated.
The Typhoon fighters were backed up by a Voyager aerial refuelling aircraft.
Daesh - referred to as ISIS - established militant control over large swathes of Iraq and Syria before its territorial defeat in 2019.
"This action demonstrates our UK leadership, and commitment to work closely with our allies, to eliminate any revival of the terrorist group and their violent and radical beliefs in the area," the British Defence Secretary the Defence Secretary said.
RAF aircraft have conducted overwatch operations over Syria to "deter any attempted comeback" of IS following its defeat at the Baghuz confrontation in 2019, the MoD reported.
"I want to thank the personnel of British forces involved in this strike for their professionalism and their bravery," Healey said. "They were among a great many British troops stationed over the holidays. This action, to remove terrorist threats who threaten our security, demonstrates how our armed forces are ready to step up, all year round, keeping Britain secure at home and strong abroad."

The UN says IS still has roughly 5-7 thousand fighters in Iraq and Syria.
